Do you looove my bits?

I seen this advertisement when I went to see the Batman Rises(which was fantastic!) movie the other day. As someone who studied and done my dissertation on gender in advertising I though it would be interesting to share it in my blog. To be honest and this is going to sound weird coming from a person who likes fanservice and founds eechi fun but this advertisement is very tasteless... Maybe if it was done more clever, suttle and implied it might of been better pehaps the women in it wearing business suits but wearing scattly clad outfits is just dumb and you are gong to get a wave of feminsists and people complaining about the advertisement being sexist. The ad just screams sexist.

What do you think? :)

Rin Tohsaka Images

Here are two images I got from Richard who was shooting cosplayers at Q-Con. These images are really good and he done a great job editing them. More of his work can be viewed here.

Richard will also be taking my erotic Ayanami pictures as my original intentions where to get self shots in my room but this could be a hassle and it is better if somebody else takes the pictures. I would be going for a glamour twist, low artistic, romantic candle light. We will hopefully be starting working on these images soon.

Video Footage of Arcadecon

Here are two videos I am featured in which were taken at Arcadeon. The first video has been done by Corey from Irish Cosplay who is the Irish equivalent to Acksonl in the States. He has done fantastic cosplay music promotional videos and I plan on working with him in doing promotional videos for the Cosplay Ireland website. I am featured towards the end and the cosplay in it is excellent! Corey and Tomii did a great job putting this video together.
This video I am featured in the begining of it. I was interviewed by Nikki Ward on my thoughts with Arcadecon and spoke about Cosplay Ireland and CosArt. It is an entertaining video as con goers and guests give their thoughts. Professor Elemental who is known for being a Steampunk rapper and was a guest is hilarious in the video.

It all returns to nothing..

I found this video last night which I think is quite good! The band are someone I never heard of who are named Smash My Box. I think it is cool that they done a cover from the Evangelion cover of Komm susser tod out of End of Evangelion. I always love that song. You can listen to more of their songs here. They are kinda dance/electronic. Like this image. I think you can tell they are inspired by Japan and Anime. :P

My Babydoll Wig

I got my Babydoll wig for cosplaying at ArcadeCon this weekend. I really like the film SuckerPunch. Great soundtrack, action and great story about exploited women which was told very well. I felt SuckerPunch was a "cosplay" kinda movie with living in our hard ordinary worlds, escaping to fantasy being heroes. I also felt it somewhat highlighted the dark, erotic side to cosplaying or to anything of an erotic art as something could be misunderstood on the surface but if looked deeper there is a deeper meaning. I really like the character Babydoll she reminds me abit of Rei Ayanami as on the surface she comes across as innocent, weak, submissive, cute, then deeper she is a very strong person, kicks ass and fights for what she believes in. Like I said great soundtrack! As I mentioned on D.A. I like to cosplay to suit the event and given ArcadeCon is a mixed convention I thought cosplaying as Babydoll was perfect giving she is a film character but has the Japanese and anime influence. Also love Seifuku. <3
I am really happy with the wig. It is perfect and just like real hair! It also came in a neat box which is fantastic for storage.
And this is what the costume will be made from.
Will be uploading progress shots soon!

Meeting Makoto Shinkai

I have always been a big fan of Shinkai's work. His animation is always so moving and his work is very unique focusing on great detail on the night time sky which is beautiful. Voices of a Distant Star was my favourite peice from him. I also liked 5 cm Per Second and Beyond the Clouds.

The film that was screening was Journey to Agartha Chidren Who Chase Lost Voices and was in the LightHouse Cinema organised by the Embassy of Japan and by Andrew from Kaze. It was a very magical movie with alot of influences from Miyazaki. It may have been alot like Sprited Away and other anime in the fantasy genre but it still was unique and very Shinkai with beautiful visuals of the night sky and stars. After the movie there was a Q&A session and Tara Brady from the Irish Times briefly interviewed Shinkai and the audience asked questions. One girl asked a very good question why he uses visuals on the night sky and stars in his works. Shinkai answered that when he was a child he would always look at the night sky and stars and dreamed of becoming an astronaut. One guy asked a good question on where does he get his inspirations and mentioned that he gets his inspirations from many mythologies around the world.

After the Q&A session we queued for an hour and a half to get our posters it was well worth the wait! Shinkai was a pleasure to meet. He was very grateful to see that so many people came to see him. Here is an image of me with Shinkai. That is Hugo on the left from the Experience Japan Festival, Stephen and Will who are friends on the right. I was chatting to alot of people at the event and many travelled from all over Ireland. There must of been well over 50 people at the event and the tickets really sold out!

Well here is my souvenir to remember the night by. It was memorable night and inspirational. I wish I told Shinkai that his work inspires me as a cosplayer and that I would like to one day send him an image of me maybe cosplaying as one of his characters or just of me with the beautiful sky similar to his work to show he inpires me. Maybe one day.. I would really like to get shots similar to the above images so people can see I am influenced by him. I really do love the way he portrays the sky and I would like to feature this in my pictures.
